We are going to be upgrading both of the servers at some point over the weekend. I realize this is somewhat short notice but it is something we've had planned now for some time to improve performance and flexibility.
We are putting together the plan for how to transition user data over to the new systems, but as always it would be strongly advised that you also make your own backups just in case. Unfortunately with computers one never knows.
For those of you who are curious about such things, this is what we've got planned:
Abit NF-M2 Motherboards
AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4600+ CPUs
2GB of RAM for each box.
500GB Western Digital SATA2 harddrives.
Fedora Core 6 64-bit OS.
So what does this mean for you? It means blazing fast boxes with heaps more RAM and much improved filesystem performance. Fedora Core 6 was specifically optimized for boosted kernel performance as well, and since these are going to be fresh built systems anyway there was no reason not to go with it.
If you have any questions about this upgrade, please post them in the Support forum.
